Engineer reborn as a dungeon core in a fantasy world.

Ike was a hobbyist clockmaker and former aerospace engineer enjoying his retirement on a habitat station orbiting Saturn. Unfortunately, his hard-earned peace was disturbed by a rapid decompression event and his resulting death.

Contrary to his expectations, Ike found himself reincarnated as a handicapped and supposedly-man-eating dungeon core in a fantastic realm of wonder, magic, dragons, and wizards! Faced with a luckless start in this hostile new world, Ike will have to employ his new-found near-perfect recall of his past life experiences along with ingenuity to survive and manifest his ambitions while struggling with morality.

Optional Extra Information (click 'Show' to reveal): This one doesn't work because RR is buggy ---> Hi - Why have I done this? Hello! I've included this section to list a few of the elements which my story currently includes or will include in the future. As a reader, an ambiguous synopsis has never much appealed to me. I've always wanted to know what I'm getting into ahead of time, even at the cost of spoilers. Frankly speaking, this site's content tags are not enough to convey that information. Another thing I wish other stories did more often was publicly outline drawbacks/deterrents to the story. It makes sense that they would not do this as it might turn potential readers away. But here's the thing, I'm writing this story for my own enjoyment, so the amount of readers isn't really that important to me. No, what is important to me is that those who do decide to give it a try, enjoy it. I'm a fan of transparency, this is my attempt to act on those beliefs. I don't want people to read something they won't enjoy, so if any of my listed cons are significant to you, please do NOT read Dungeon Engineer! - What it currently includes (minor spoilers): > Good grammar, or so I hear > Main character has morals > Realistic physics, applied universally (This is a story about engineering, after all.) > Main character has extensive knowledge > Lots and lots of ants and plants > Speculative evolution (How might life evolve to abuse magical rules?) > Main character performs genetic engineering and selective hybridization > Nuanced ecology, strange subterranean ecosystems > Main character completes infrastructure projects (With a special emphasis on fluid mechanics) > Weird civilizations, above and below the surface > Main character engages in magic experimentation and theorization > Supply chain economics > NO ADVENTURERS - What it will include (moderate spoilers): Note that this stuff will likely take ages to complete. > Exploration, above and below the surface, but mostly below > Non-trivial industrialization (Industrialization is very difficult, I will go out of my way to not oversimplify it.) > Military technology > Bio-computing > Magitech that makes sense > Mechanical marvels (The main character has some incredible prior experience.) > Kingdom building (but with a twist) MAJOR SPOILERS: > Self replication > Space exploration and conflict, again with an emphasis on semi-realistic physics > And I really don't want to reveal any more beyond this. - Reasons not to read Dungeon Engineer: > My first time writing creatively > Numerous info-dumps (I like worldbuilding a little too much.) > Gets very off topic at times (The universe has hard rules which must be quantified for believability and immersion.) > Hidden satire (Some fantasy tropes are just plain stupid, they will be violently deconstructed.) > Technical concepts and nomenclature (I refuse to trivialize complex topics and handwave details.) > Extremely slow story pace (Though it is not slice-of-life.) > Inner monologues (The main character likes to think to himself and explain his actions.) > Flawed main character (He is prone to occasionally making mistakes. Perfect recall does not mean someone is immune to forgetting to do or take into account certain things. Even so, mistakes have consequences.) > Overpowered main character (His advancements will be logically justified, which is part of why the story pace is slow.) > Detailed technology, physics, and biology (Consistent rules) -

Discord
