The story goes that when the Demon King unleashes his armies upon the human realm, it falls upon the shoulders of a hero to defeat him. It must be a prophesized thing, then, for the hero never fails to defeat the great evil. The hero would return his kingdom, triumphant and proud, as celebration floods through the streets.

This is not that story. The Demon King is dead, but the war has not yet ended.

Marianne is a girl on on the cusp of maturity, and she's about the learn that she does not live in a story. Ending a decades long war is not as simple as killing the Demon King, and to do so, she will have to sacrifice her honour, her morals, and her humanity itself. And along the way, peel back the veil and uncover the truth of this war.

But that's not how a hero should act, according to the stories. Well, Marianne isn't heroic, for she isn't the hero.
