<p>Somewhere and somewhen, on the edge of a galaxy that may or may not be the Milky way, three stars circle each other in a dance older than Sol. These stars held in place countless planets, moons, belts of debris, and things best described as simply, places. Each speck of dust had its own rules, its own powers. Some had Systems. Some had cultivators. Some had magic. Some had all of the above, and more. And all called, far and wide, bringing to them people of other worlds and other times. This realm of jewels floating in space came to an end, and a new beginning, when a legion of powers from various worlds began a joint project. For reasons known only to them, they worked together and re-forged every speck of matter captured in orbit around their triple star into a giant ring, surrounding the stars, capturing the power emanating from the empty place the hung in the center of their spinning dance. On the inner surface of this ring, bearing the lands of a thousand worlds a thousand times over, they crafted Borders, separating the ring into Arcs and Chords, areas where different rules held sway, recreating the worlds that once spun alone in the heavens. Now, those called from far worlds come here, to The Vaulted Ring of Arcs and Chords. These are their tales.Tales of the Vaulted Ring is an ongoing of short stories and novellas, each only bearing in common that they take place in this strange system where rules are mutable simply by traveling far enough. Some stories take place before the creation of the The Vaulted Ring. Some take place after. Some, like the first story to be told, take place during both time frames.
