<p>Telric Vohm is the youngest son of House Vohm, foremost of the Houses in the city of Newhaven. After his people fled their home world of Hearth during the Exodus, they came to the Outlands to find a safer life for them and their descendants. But now centuries have passed, and Newhaven has begun to lose in its eternal struggle against the sands that smother the Outlands. Every year their artifacts, left by their ancestors from Hearth to make the desert livable, become less and less effective at creating water and cooling the air in the desert city. No one since the Exodus has known how to fix, let alone make the ancient contraptions.</p> <p>Now Telric must find a way to save his people, pitted against his family's obsession with their primacy in Newhaven and the lack of understanding for anima artifacts here in the Outlands. If he does nothing, his community will die. But if he ventures to the Inner Worlds, the beasts that made his people flee in the first place may kill him before he can return with the knowledge required to repair anima artifacts.</p>
