Plot:

Starting in Paris 1968, our three main Krsnik – Sila, Tam & Iolanda, all members of the Ortenburg Clan – try to stay up to date with modern [human] art while at the same time avoiding ambushes by rival clans and turncoat comrades. It goes okay until the third chapter.

Note: never trust a bar bathed in green neon.

Fast forward to Hong Kong 2013 and Joanna is struggling to fit in at her new school. Which makes sense when you're two years older than everyone else. The only friend she does have is Adam, another nineteen year old who is preoccupied with writing a web serial about vampires krsnik, though he'll obviously never meet one.

And he doesn't…until he, Joanna and a few others stumble into the Ortenburg Clan's art studio and drunkenly trash some of their zines.

Then it's retribution time.

But can the Ortenburgs do it without alerting local krsnik or enemy clans?

[No, they can't].

---

NOTES

In Slavic culture, krsnik are typically portrayed as vampire hunters, but in this series they're the vamps.

The basic idea is that common vampire mythology is an exaggerated version of the krsnik, possibly created by themselves using human pen names. For example, they're not technically immortal, but they do live an incredibly long life; they're twice as strong as humans, and sunlight merely toasts them a little.

I wrote this about 8 years ago, but was never happy with it, so I'm rewriting it as a vampire/gang horror thing and putting it up here for anyone to read. It's a first draft of the new version so probably a bit rough in places.

There's some Slovene and other languages scattered about to give an international feel, but only simple stuff like 'yes' and 'no.'

Don't pay too much attention to the cover, the horror element of this story is actually quite low key.

For millenia, Krsnik have been living among us.

Preying on us.

Admiring our art.

Indulging in centuries-old blood feuds between clans and splinter groups of clans and free krsnik and rogue krsnik called kudlak and mythical creatures from other countries and...

Yeah, it's a messy, hidden world out there.

Of course, Joanna doesn't know any of this as she's too busy struggling to fit in at her new school in Hong Kong. Which makes sense when you're two years older than everyone else.

Her friend Adam doesn't know much about krsnik either, though he might soon as he's just started planning a web serial about them.

And who cares if they know or not, it's obvious they'll never actually meet one.

Or three.

Not in a story called 'Krsnik.'

No way.

---

NOTES

In Slovene/Croatian culture, krsnik are typically portrayed as vampire hunters, but in this series they're the vamps.

The basic idea is that common vampire mythology is an exaggerated version of the krsnik, possibly created by themselves using human pen names.
