The realms of Evren are in the midst of revolution as the branches of the constitutional monarchy act in opposition to each other, and science and industry are accelerating at the fastest rate in history, inciting antimosity among the religious. But, Verity Starling, half divine heir the throne of Evren, doesn't care about politics, industry, or technology. She doesn't want the throne, or to be anything like her parents, the Imperator and Imperatrix of Evren, who only brought her into the world to secure the dynasty's dwindling power. No, Verity only wants to be like her hero, Tempest Omiros, the legendary, probably mythological, Forsaken slayer.

But, no matter how far she runs away, she can't outrun destiny. The Oracle declares the Soraline, the diviners of Fate, have chosen a Sentinel to serve Verity, something not practiced since the old deities, the Paragons, abandoned the world after the Dereliction. Fate apparently sealed, Verity struggles to come to terms with the fact she may never be given the chance to make her own choices or follow her own path, even if a conservative religious group called the Zealots, lead by the Legislature General Nathania Obilesk, the former Prophet of Valen, Paragon of Order, declare her dangerous and demand sanctions be placed on her rule.

When Evren faces a crisis that could tear it apart forever, will Verity finally accept her duty as the heir, or will she renounce everything she was raised to be to follow her own heart?(Rewrite of the originally posted story)
