Ruhaysu hails from a long-established family of Sacred Custodians in Khaiyan, and the throes of cleaning the city, no matter how honorable a job it may be, leave him more than a little dissatisfied. But his life may be about to change when his father receives a bid to service the mansion of one of Khaiyan's noblest houses.

There he lays eyes on Saikasi, heiress of a prestigious dynasty of jinn-hunters, and he knows (or hopes) that it's meant to be. There's only one issue: her father is on the cusp of marrying her off to the grandson of the Emperor, and achieving every great family's dream of an Imperial alliance. Saikasi has plans of her own, but if they involve her Imperial suitor, or could ever involve the ambitious Ruhaysu, remains to be seen.
