Finding oneself in an alternate fantasy world, full of magic, classes, levels, and skills, could be a fantastic experience or a horrific one; it all depends on whom one meets, among other factors.

En is the tenth Earth human (known in the world of Erd as Travelers, with a capital "T") to arrive in the lands of the Erden this millennium. No one knows how exactly people like her make the trip, nor does anyone seem to have the slightest idea how she might return home. Her true name is lost to her and she feels as if someone took her brain through a chop shop; any memory that is remotely personal has been carved out and a bunch of local knowledge spot welded in its place. She knows where she is (roughly), she can speak the local language and understand many of the local customs; she is aware that this world is home to the usual range of fantasy beings (kobolds, goblins, elves, dwarves, gnolls, etc), and that the humans of this world lead the Erden Empire.

What she doesn't know, but soon discovers, is that the people of Erden view the Travelers as the stereotypical prophesied heroes, and expect her to lead them to victory in their current war. They are, of course, delighted to discover that she has a natural talent for combat, while she is utterly horrified by the ease with which she can kill. Her memories may be gone but her instincts still tell her something of the person she once was, and En is determined not to lose whatever tiny bit of her identity remains. But how is she supposed to be the hero of a people at war without waging war herself? Plus there's something about the relationship between humans and the other species that makes her distinctly uncomfortable. She's pretty sure she knows what it is that bothers her but the real question is whether she has the right to do something about it. And whether or not she even can.

Lord Korrinn Yain takes his duties as Chief Guardian of his clan's Stronghold City very seriously. North Forest might not be the most powerful clan in the Erden Empire but it fills a vital role in training each generation of warriors; eager youths from every social class and corner of the empire flock to the Academies in North Forest Stronghold, each one dreaming of being the next great General. It is therefore quite fitting that the Tenth Traveler should appear on North Forest land.

As Chief Guardian of the Stronghold, Korrinn is given the responsibility to mentor and guide the young woman from another world until she achieves her destiny. Korrinn takes up his new duty with an enthusiasm that quickly turns to confusion. According to legend, every Traveler has a gift, some task or profession at which he or she is uniquely gifted. It is obvious from the first day that En has the potential to be an incredible warrior, so why does she seem so determined to ignore her gift? Even worse, how is Korrinn supposed to explain to the Emperor that this generation's mightiest hero would rather play at tea parties with his young daughter than spar with the weapons masters?
