Thread: Hidden GMs Destiny & Gods Ordeal

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the projects my group Cave Scanlations is translating from the author Selkin (https://www.wlnupdates.com/author-id/2458/), so I thought I better make a thread about it. I hope this is the right place to post it!^^"

I noticed that Selkins other novel/oneshot collection series "Gods Ordeal", which was added by me to the series before, vanished(?) from the series list and seemingly mixed up together with her Hidden GMs Destiny novel. On the Hidden GMs page (https://www.wlnupdates.com/series-id/2692/) the chapter listed as "vol 1 ch 6 Fashion Trend" actually belongs to the Gods Ordeal novel. Could you maybe remove the wrong chapter from the page and recreate the Gods Ordeal page?^^"

Here are the links to the two different stories of the author Selkin: https://selkinnovel.com/novels/hidden-gms-destiny/ (Hidden GMs Destiny) https://selkinnovel.com/novels/gods-ordeal/ (Gods Ordeal)

Edit: And I just saw that my group was added under the RSS feeds, which...is probably not the best idea..?o-o" My group is a scanlation group which also translates a few novels so there would be also manga releases mixed in? Can it be maybe filtered in a way so that only the novel updates appear (e.g. only posts with a "novel" tag appear)? Or just use Selkins RSS only for her releases and I add other novels manually that would also work.

This is indeed the correct place! Thanks for helping!

I'm not too sure what's going on here, as the entries on https://www.wlnupdates.com/series-id/2692/ were actually added by another user, not the automated system.

While series can be merged, it's completely manual and I'm not seeing evidence of that happening here (another admin or I have to manually pick the two series, and click "Merge").

Anyways, I deleted the "Fashion Trend" chapter release, and re-added a series titled "God's Ordeal" (https://www.wlnupdates.com/series-id/42439/)

Note that any registered user can create a new series: Go to the "Series" page on the navigation bar -> click the "Add a Series" button at the top of the page. The goal of the site is to be mostly "wiki-style", where any user can add series or releases, or update item content. Only a few specialized operations (deleting things, mostly) are restricted to administrators.

How clear I've made this is another matter (I'm rather bad at accessibility and discoverability. God help you if you want me to design a user interface for your project),

Thanks.

I have not implemented any provision for filtering the plain RSS feeds, but that is a good idea. Right now, the release generation is done with a filtering and parsing system, but the "Raw Feeds" display is, well, raw. To filter it, I'd have to write a filtering system.

FWIW, Cave Scans is not the only primarily-scanlation group in the feed list. The raw feeds aren't a primary focus of the site, and I've just let it alone so far, albeit mostly out of lazyness.

Thanks for your quick help!

Hm, that's really strange then. Because I was the one who created the Gods Ordeal page (as written in the first post) a long time ago, when my group released the first chapter and the 6th chapter was also added when it was released. Thus why I asked. Maybe an admin by mistake back some months ago merged it then (thus why the chapter showed up on the Hidden GM page). I hoped you maybe had an old copy or something to retrieve it to save some work by creating it from scratch again. Anyway it's solved, so huge thanks and I guess I manually add the information about the novel again then.

Ah, okay, thanks for the explaination. Guess this sure is a lot of work so I can fully understand being lazy if you have to write the filtering system from scratch..xD"

That admin would be me, and it's entirely possible that I did something dumb like that ;).

I do have backups, but they're snapshots of the entire database, so picking out changes is non trivial, and I'd probably just manually unpack the compress database archive and manually re-enter the content then try to do a proper "restore".

This whole site was mostly a "teach myself the thing" affair, so it's not considerably more involved then anything else. It'll probably happen when I implement feed-watching, which is another thing I want to do ~eventually~ (when eventually is, well....).

On the other hand, it means that some bits only have very basic functionality (this forum, for example).

Thanks!
